The funny thing about socks

  • Apr 11, 2008

is that they kind of have to fit. I mean, sure, they can be a little baggy and just be lounge socks, but for some reason that's not quite as satisfying. It would however, have been MORE satisfying than my sock that I couldn't even get on past my heel. When casting on, I apparently didn't bother to refer to the book to see what size a 60 stitch cast on would be. A child's large. I really am just verifying my intelligence left and right here.
There is some good news! I bought some SHEEPAINTS from the Loopy Ewe last week and received it in the mail on Wednesday. I bought a ball winder from joann.com the day before I ordered my yarn, but by the time I had my yarn, the thing hadn't even shipped (grr), so I had a fun adventure in hand winding my own yarn. I'm pretty sure I did it wrong, but its been working for me so far, and I'll be damned if my yarn ball isn't cute as hell anyway. I have another pair of socks started, this time with 74 stitches...or was it 72..shit..

I took pictures of my yarn! I ran out of room on my camera and don't feel like deleting everything now, so pictures of the sock in progress will have to wait for a few days. Hopefully I'll be done one by then.

How I know I'm retarded.

I've been working on some simple 2x2 ribbed socks for the last couple of weeks or so. The progress has been really slow going, mostly because it took me about 8 attempts to actually get the thing started. I would always do something idiotic and lose about 4 or 5 stitches, or I would be knitting so tight I could barely move the needles. Anyway, I finally got the hang of it and started making progress on my sock. When it got time for me to start the heel flap, I freaked out. For some reason I was convinced that I cast on a number of stitches not recommended in the pattern, like a total douche bag. Also like I douche bag I run straight to Ravelry screaming for help because these are my first socks and I can't NOT follow the pattern exactly because I don't know what I'm doing, which apparently didn't cross my mind when I cast on a stupid number of stitches. So some lovely individual gives me a solution I understand, but because I'm so stressed out due to work I decide to wait until my days off. Well, lo and behold, I start the heel flap and it turns out I DID cast on the right number of stitches. Not only did I do the right thing and not remember, but I WROTE IT DOWN in my knitting notebook, in which I keep track of these things so a situation like this doesn't have to happen.
I'll post pictures as soon as I find the charging cord for the camera.

I've had this blog for a month, and I've wanted to post in it but it's always difficult for me to start things.
My name is Amber, I'm 20 ( I'll be 21 in June). I work full time as a waitress as I have for the past 4 years. I don't know what I want to do with my life, but whatever it is, I know it won't be something most people describe as normal. I can be best described as a fiery redhead. I have a boyfriend whom I've been with for almost a year and a half, but I'm no good at relationships. I value my solitude. My dream is to be able to live in the country in an old rustic house with a wrap around porch and a yard so I can keep a vegetable garden and some sheep. I'm most attracted to Keira Knightley. For now, I sit at home, watch Golden Girls, and knit. A lot. I really like knitting. And I drink, but that's a different story. When I think about my future, I never see anyone else in it. I'm not too sure what that says about me.
This blog will be about any of the above things (probably lots of knitting) and whatever other situations I seem to always get myself caught in. I'm sloppy with my words, and I use terrible language. enjoy.
